Caught the Big Ten Wrestling Championships this weekend. I haven't been able to watch much NCAA wrestling action, so this was a great 2 days of seeing what's in store for the NCAA Championships in 2 weeks.

I reached out to a couple fans of the site to get some insight on what to be looking out for...Holy shit! How dominant is Penn State this year? Nearly every weight class had one of their wrestlers going for a championship. I almost have to root against them because they are so damn good.

Not sure how long they've been doing the championship belts for the winners. It's a little corny, but I know I definitely would've loved having the chance to win one during my amateur wrestling career.

Some thoughts...

Enjoyed some of the upsets, especially seeing a #6 seed from Minnesota - Jore Volk going hard against the top dog in his weight class. Would be fun to see a re-match now that Volk has been in that position.

Wild no-call on the takedown for Wisconsin's Joe Zargo against Ethan Stiles. I'd like to see that match-up again.

I really like watching Brock Hardy's wrestling style. He's a bit wild. Reminds me a bit of myself on the mats. Definitely looking forward to a rematch between he and Jesse Mendez.

Another re-match that I'm really looking forward to, would be at 184 lbs between Minnesota & Penn State. Hopefully they meet in the finals at the NCAA tourney. I gotta imagine that Minnesota wrestler will be fired up for another round against the Penn State dude.

Shayne Van Ness is wicked. 

Penn State 167 lbs. Mesenbrink is fun to watch.

Personally, I tend to be more of a lighter weight class fan. Maybe because that's the weight classes I wrestled at when I did folkstyle - 130 pounds to 140 pounds...with a very occasional bump up to 145 pounds if there was nobody to wrestle at 140 pounds. 

Great to see how popular wrestling is now. I remember times when we couldn't field a full team. Now it seems like everyone is full at all weight classes with a couple JV kids missing out on being champions because of the loaded rosters.

While waiting for the finals, I caught some wacky Ultimate Tire Wrestling and something called "Coffin Wars." Not sure how I feel about it...kind of wish Coffin Wars was my idea, but not really the Tire Wrestling type.

I'm going to check out some ACC and Ivy League tournament matches throughout the week. Always enjoy the mis-matches in the ACC finals. Anything jump out that I should be looking for?
